2.) TENSKWATAWA (Male)

Usage: Native American

Meanings: Derived from the Shawnee tenskwdtawaskwate (door) and thenui (to be open): hence, “the open door.” The name was borne by the twin brother of Tecumseh. Known by whites as the Shawnee Prophet (17681837), he was a visionary and preached a message of returning to the lifestyle of their forefathers and rejecting all things white. He often tailored his speeches to his brother’s efforts by preaching a system of common ownership of land by all tribes. After the Battle of Tippecanoe, he lost his prestige as a prophet and moved to Canada. (TEN-SKWA-TAH-WAH)
